The Ohio University Hockey season has started out with a full swing with their win against John Carrol this past Friday night with a winning score of 9-1. Coach Dan Morris said that one of the keys to the game was a quick start, and the Ohio Bobcats went out and got it. Freshman Michael Harris’ goal came just 30 seconds into the first period was just the beginning of a high scoring victory for the Ohio Bobcats in front of a packed Bird Arena crowd.
Harris’ goal was the first of his ACHA career and gave the Bobcats an early lead. Goaltender Fedor Dushkin made some saves throughout the first period, but John Carroll struck back, tying the game as the period closed down.
Another early goal by Zandon Dover off a scramble in front of the net gave the Bobcats the lead right back less than five minutes into the second period. A few minutes later, Whestsel increased the lead to 3-1, throwing the puck in front of the net and having it deflect off a skate. The Bobcats scored one more time with a goal from Jonathan Gulch to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.
Michael Harris continued to impress in his first game, scoring again to make it 5-1 Ohio. That was when the Bobcats turned on the heat, as De La Torre made it 6-1 moments later. Following the play, Mike Kretz scored his first goal of the season. The game ended in a 9-1 Ohio Bobcats victory, leaving the large crowd that came out to support OU hockey proud and happy. The Bobcats will rematch John Carroll Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Bird Arena.
